GTA 6 has been delayed once again by publisher Take-Two Interactive Software, and will release six months later than expected in November 19, 2026.
Fans waiting for the highly anticipated GTA 6 will have to wait a little bit longer.
Earlier today, developers Rockstar Games announced that they would be delaying the game, and were “sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait,” but promised that “these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
Their full statement would read:
“Hi everyone,”
“Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.”
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City.”
“Sincerely, Rockstar Games”
Parent company Take-Two would similarly share a statement following its quarterly results, sharing that they would be giving the “team some additional time to finish the game [GTA 6] with the high level of polish players expect and deserve.”
The new release date marks the second public delay to the highly-anticipated third-person crime game. In anxiety over the game’s release, other developers have famously been holding back on releasing their games to not compete with Rockstar Games’ flagship title.
Grand Theft Auto V, released in September 2013, would go on to sell 220 million copies wordlwide, making it the second best-selling game of all time. For that reason alone, many are expecting GTA 6, its sixth mainline title to easily become the “largest game launch in history“.
Its now-less-so imminent sequel is set to take place in Miami, and will feature dual protagonists Lucia and Jason. GTA 6 is expected to be a Bonnie-and-Clyde story which will place the romantic duo in guns blazing glory against the backdrop of a highly satirical imagining of Florida’s city.
