Ever fancied yourself as a punk but never had the excuse to sport that mohawk? Well, now’s your chance. Green Day is on the lookout for extras to join their upcoming comedy film, “New Years Rev.” The band is seeking young adults aged 18-30 who embody the punk, emo, hardcore, alternative, or rocker vibe. If your wardrobe screams Hot Topic circa 2005, you’re already halfway there.
The film, inspired by Green Day’s early van-touring escapades, follows three friends on a misguided road trip to Los Angeles, convinced they’re opening for a Green Day New Year’s Eve gig. Spoiler: they’re not. Directed by Lee Kirk, the movie boasts a cast including Mason Thames, Jenna Fischer, and Sean Gunn. And yes, Billie Joe Armstrong and the gang are co-producing.
Shooting is set for February 24-27 in the Oklahoma City area. Why Oklahoma, you ask? Maybe they’re aiming for that authentic “middle-of-nowhere” tour stop feel. Extras will play attendees at a pop-up rock show, complete with live music, skateboarding, and a “rowdy good time.” There’s even a rain and mud fight scene on the docket. So, if you’ve ever wanted to get paid to play in the mud, dreams do come true.
Compensation is $101.50 per day, plus an extra $25 if you’re game for the mud fight. Sure, it’s not rockstar money, but consider it a paid vacation from your day job. Travel and lodging aren’t covered, so start pooling gas money with your fellow punk pals.
To throw your studded belt into the ring, email [email protected] with two recent photos (close-up and full-body), your contact info, and “REV – THE HOLE” in the subject line. Time to dust off those Doc Martens and show Green Day what you’ve got.
As Billie Joe Armstrong reminisced about their early days: “Van days rule. You drive all night on no sleep, play a show for 10 kids in a basement, and do it all over again the next day.” Now’s your chance to be part of that legacy—minus the questionable hygiene and cramped van quarters.
