Sydney hardcore punk band Speed has issued an emotional call for help as the search for their missing friend, Aje (Chang-Wook Yeo), continues in the Blue Mountains.
The disappearance has not only shaken the band but also led to the postponement of five shows across NSW and Canberra.
Taking to Instagram, the ARIA-winning group shared the devastating news with fans. “Our brother Aje has been missing since 3.45 pm on January 6, 2025,” the post read. Speed confirmed that search efforts, led by local authorities, have been hampered by dangerous weather conditions. “Please be careful if you’re around that area due to the terrain and potential danger,” the band added.
Aje, a close friend and integral part of Speed’s community, was last seen at Hanging Rock in the Blue Mountains. Authorities discovered his phone and other personal belongings at the site, but after days of searching, he remains missing. With the search now in its 13th day, fans and supporters are rallying behind the band.
Known for their gritty, no-holds-barred take on hardcore punk, Speed has cultivated a cult following in Australia’s punk scene. Their announcement, while devastating, was met with overwhelming support from the community. “Our community stands next to you, boys. No matter what,” one fan commented. “Let us know if there’s any other way we can help.”
Despite the postponements, Speed’s focus remains firmly on their missing mate. Their plea extended beyond their fanbase, calling for vigilance in the Blue Mountains and surrounding areas. They also noted that Aje is a short Asian male, typically dressed in baggy clothes and glasses, and speaks both Korean and English.
As the search continues, Speed has warned fans that upcoming shows in Adelaide and Victoria might also be affected. “Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time,” the band wrote.
Ticket holders for the postponed shows can seek refunds through Oztix, but right now, the focus isn’t on music—it’s on bringing Aje home. If you’re in the area or have any information, Speed asks that you reach out to Katoomba Police Station urgently. Their contact number is (02) 4782 8199. In the meantime, let’s just hope Aje is returned home safely soon.
