Helmet are officially returning to Australia in April, bringing their razor wired New York noise rock back to stages across the country.
The run will see Helmet hit Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne, delivering a career spanning set built on the kind of hostile riffs and metronomic groove that helped reshape heavy music in the ‘90s.
Melbourne has already made its move, the April 25th show at Northcote Theatre is sold out, with a second date now added for Sunday, April 26th.
Melbourne’s ‘Betty’ Fest
The newly announced April 26yh Northcote Theatre show will double as a one off ‘Betty’ Fest event, celebrating Helmet’s 1994 album ‘Betty’ performed live in full, for the last time ever.
Support for the Melbourne ‘Betty’ Fest date comes from Civic, Chimers, Lothario, Dead and Snake Thighs.
VIP sessions will not be available for the ‘Betty’ Fest show.
A Legacy Built On Precision
Formed in New York at the dawn of the alternative explosion, Helmet carved out a sound that stripped heaviness back to its bones, their 1992 landmark ‘Meantime’ went gold and cemented them as a defining force in alternative metal.
As Pitchfork put it: “Helmet stripped away the excess, dialled in the precision, and redefined what heaviness could sound like without succumbing to clichés.”
From ‘Betty’ and ‘Aftertaste’ through to later releases like ‘Dead to the World’ and 2023’s ‘Left’, Helmet’s catalogue remains a blueprint for bands like Deftones, Korn, Pantera and Mastodon.
Three decades deep, the riffs still land with surgical weight.
