Ice Nine Kills Are Making A Slasher Film And The Title Alone Is Unhinged

Share

Ice Nine Kills have never been content with just writing albums, the band’s entire identity has been built on pushing horror theatrics as far as they’ll go, and now they’re taking that obsession off the stage and onto the big screen.

The band are currently developing a full length slasher film titled The Slashin’ of the Christ, a name that feels perfectly on brand for a group that has spent years turning horror films into breakdowns, the script is already finished, and it’s not some half baked vanity project either.

Frontman Spencer Charnas co-wrote the screenplay alongside Paul Soter, best known for cult comedy/horror staples Super Troopers and Club Dread and on top of that, the film is being co-produced by Greg Nicotero, the legendary horror figure behind The Walking Dead’s most stomach churning moments.

That alone signals Ice Nine Kills are aiming higher than novelty gore!

Speaking to Metal Hammer, Charnas explained the tone fans should expect from the project:

“Like everything we do, there’s horror, there’s violence, but there’s a wink to the camera. We’re not taking ourselves too seriously, and I think the world needs a movie like this.”

Despite the deliberately provocative title, Charnas doesn’t believe the film is out to offend for the sake of it, instead he’s framed it as something closer to classic shock horror that sparked conversation rather than outrage.

“I think that it might be like The Exorcist, which was touted by the Catholic Church because it showed on-screen what they’ve been talking about.”

According to Charnas, the band are already in discussions with multiple studios and potential directors, with the possibility of recognisable horror names getting involved both behind and in front of the camera.

“I certainly hope so,” he added. “And who’s to say who will live and who will die?”

At this stage, The Slashin’ of the Christ has no release date, but if Ice Nine Kills’ past visual projects are anything to go by, subtlety won’t be on the menu.

Whether it ends up shocking audiences or just having a twisted bit of fun with the genre, it’s clear the band are dead serious about horror as more than just an aesthetic.
