Imminence are taking the cinematic world surrounding their new album Axis Mundi literally to the big screen, with Australian fans getting an early look, and listen, one day before the record arrives.
Swedish metalcore band Imminence have announced exclusive theatrical screenings of the Axis Mundi film, with Australian sessions taking place in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on October 1st. The album itself follows on October 2nd.
Part film and part album preview, the screenings will combine music from Axis Mundi, including previously unheard tracks with never before seen visuals completing the story the band have developed across the album campaign.
The film builds on the mythology introduced through ‘The Sword That Never Bends’, ‘False Light’ and ‘If Not Now, When’, following an immortal knight’s journey towards the Axis Mundi, a mythical bridge between life and death.
What to expect
Each screening will also include an exclusive 20 minute making of feature exploring the creation of the album, its mythology and the visual production behind the film.
“Someone told us: ‘You’re such a cinematic band, you should take it to the next step and make a movie.’ You can’t just say that to a band like Imminence,” guitarist Harald Barrett recalls.
Barrett and vocalist Eddie Berg expanded on the visual identity already established across Imminence’s artwork, videos and live production alongside longtime collaborator Jakob Koc. Scriptwriter Juan Felipe Zul and director Pavel Trebukhin were then brought in to develop the project into a feature film.

The film and album were created in parallel, with Axis Mundi self-produced outside Malmö and recorded in Gothenburg with longtime engineer Henrik Udd. Drew Fulk contributed additional production, while film composer Lukas Geppert handled string arrangements.
For Australian fans, the October 1st screenings will take place at Dendy Newtown in Sydney, Cinema Nova in Melbourne and Dendy Coorparoo in Brisbane.
Axis Mundi arrives October 2nd.
