Creepy kids are so passé – creepy pensioners is where it’s at in the latest Insidious flick
The sixth Insidious film is nigh upon us, and that’s kind of amazing to me, because they all kind of blur together. I liked the first one well enough, as it was clearly an homage to Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist and I’m here for that. I never saw enough there to spin out into five sequels, though, and I know I’ve seen at least two of them. But I was wrong, clearly, and the multiplexes have spoken. Let’s have a look.
Insidious: Out Of The Further Trailer
What’s the plot?
As the official synopsis tells us:
When young single mother Gemma discovers she can travel into The Further and also bring what lives there back to the real world, she becomes targeted by evil spirits and demons who plan to use her powers.
So, the gist is that the demons and whatnot that prowl the Insidious universe’s pseudo-afterlife can now stalk victims in the “real” world. That’s intriguing, and should shake things up a bit.
Who’s in it?
Amelia Eve (Netflix‘s The Haunting Of Bly Manor) is Gemma, and Lin Shaye returns as series protagonist Elise Rainier, the lovable old psychic who was killed at the end of the first movie – not that that stopped her dominating the whole franchise. Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell, Island Austin, and Laura Gordon round out the cast.
When’s it out?
Insidious: Out Of The Further is in Australian cinemas this August, with an exact date yet to be announced.
What’s the vibe?
Look, I won’t lie: I jumped at one point in the trailer, so I won’t pretend I’m above the low rent, reliable charms of the Insidious films. They always do what they say on the tin.
