The Metallica frontman praised the hardcore band’s live shows while discussing an invitation that did not become a tour.
Turnstile turned down an invitation to tour with Metallica, according to James Hetfield, who shared the story while encouraging listeners to catch the Baltimore hardcore band live.
Speaking on his SiriusXM show James Hetfield’s Riff Life, the singer and guitarist said Metallica had tried to get Turnstile on the road with them.
“We have seen them live. We wanted to get them on tour. They said no,” Hetfield said.
He followed that with praise for their live energy and the time the bands had spent together. Whatever happened with the invitation, Hetfield was still giving Turnstile a recommendation.
In the clip, Hetfield gives no date for the approach, identifies no tour leg and offers no reason for Turnstile declining. His observation that they were already doing well on their own remains his assessment of the band’s position.
As BLUNT reported on 26 October, Turnstile’s free Washington Monument benefit drew an estimated 60,000 people.
Its associated fundraiser had passed US$250,000 when BLUNT checked it that day, supporting humanitarian relief in Gaza, Sudan and Lebanon through Human Concern International.
