Jay Weinberg Announces Exit From Suicidal Tendencies After Two Year Run

Jay Weinberg has officially stepped away from Suicidal Tendencies, closing out a near two year chapter with the California crossover thrash and hardcore punk icons.

The former Slipknot drummer shared the news via Instagram on Sunday, January 11th, posting nearly two dozen photos from his time with the band alongside a lengthy message reflecting on his departure, Weinberg framed the decision as a natural shift rather than a split driven by tension.

“As an exciting and busy 2026 takes shape, I’d like to thank @suicidaltendencies for bringing me onboard for an incredible year and a half of shows! What an absolute blast,” Weinberg wrote.

With his first child on the way, Weinberg explained that his focus is now turning toward family life and long gestating creative projects.

“With @chloweinberg’s & my first child on the way, I’ve been dedicating time to passion projects… finally building a proper at-home creative space, and some new in-the-works projects that I can’t quite announce just yet,” he said, adding that the next five months will be about finishing those ideas before becoming a first-time father.

Despite stepping away, Weinberg was clear that the respect runs deep. “Though I won’t be jamming with the fellas, I can’t possibly overstate the love and respect I have for them, the SUICIDAL Army and extended family, and all the cyco fans I’ve met across six continents playing shows with one of my favourite bands!”

He also paid tribute to frontman Mike Muir and the band’s inner circle, writing: “You guys picked up a friend when he was down, and gave him the opportunity to truly feel the message of ‘You Can’t Bring Me Down’ at a time when he needed it the most.”

Weinberg played his first show with Suicidal Tendencies in March 2024 in Osaka, Japan, the most recent lineup also included Dean Pleasants, Ben Weinman, and bassist Tye Trujillo.

His time with Suicidal Tendencies followed a turbulent exit from Slipknot in late 2023, a split he later described as “heartbroken and blindsided”.

Since then, Weinberg has remained active, joining Infectious Grooves, releasing his debut solo track ‘Sandstone’, and continuing to build new collaborations.

For now, it looks less like a goodbye and more like a pause, with Weinberg closing his message simply: “ST for life!”
