Job Description – Editor (Blunt Magazine)

About Us
Blunt Magazine is one of Australia’s most recognised voices in alternative music and culture. With a long history in rock, metal, and punk, we’re bringing Blunt into the modern era with a lean, high-impact digital strategy.

We’re looking for an editor who can write, oversee content, and drive engagement across digital, social, and video platforms. You’ll be responsible for getting stories out quickly, managing a team of freelance contributors, and making sure Blunt is always in the conversation.

This isn’t a traditional editorial role. You need to be an all-rounder—someone who understands how to move fast, make content engaging, and keep a publication thriving in 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing and editorial oversight: You’ll be writing your own stories regularly, from news pieces to interviews and features, while ensuring all Blunt content is sharp, engaging, and on-brand.
  • Managing writers and freelancers: Assign articles, edit submissions, and coordinate coverage with a small but effective team.
  • Social media and video: Help grow Blunt’s digital presence by creating and overseeing engaging social and video content.
  • On-camera presence: Be comfortable hosting interviews, festival coverage, and news updates for Blunt’s channels.
  • Industry relationships: Work with PR reps, labels, and bands to keep Blunt at the forefront of alternative music coverage.
  • SEO and digital growth: Ensure content reaches the right audience by understanding digital trends and audience engagement strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong writing and reporting skills—you’ll be expected to write regularly.
  • Experience in digital media or music journalism.
  • Comfortable on camera, whether for interviews, news segments, or live coverage.
  • Social media savvy with experience in content creation, engagement, and growth strategies.
  • Familiarity with rock, metal, and alternative culture—you should already live in this world.
  • Experience working with freelancers and managing multiple content streams.
  • Basic video editing or multimedia skills are a bonus.

Salary & Perks

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Work remotely with flexibility to cover major events.
  • Access to music festivals, exclusive interviews, and industry connections.
  • Opportunity to help shape the future of alternative music media.

How to Apply

Send your CV, a short cover letter, and examples of your work (writing, video, or social media content) to [email protected].

Make it real, make it engaging, and show us why you’re the perfect fit for Blunt.
