The Aerosmith guitarist has teased that the band might reunite for one final performance after abruptly cancelling their goodbye tour in 2023.
Another day, another classic rock band teases playing again after wrapping up a “Goodbye Tour”. Now, the legendary band Aerosmith are considering one final return to the stage.
In an interview on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation, guitarist Joe Perry revealed that Aerosmith have talked about reuniting for one final concert together.
Aerosmith had to abruptly halt their 2023 Peace Out: The Farewell Tour after vocalist Steven Tyler suffered a serious vocal cord injury – only three shows into their run. In 2024, the band announced their retirement from touring and admitted that Tyler is unlikely to fully recover.
After a two-year break, Tyler has since gone on to perform at charity events, including Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning final show, where he played alongside Tom Morello, Travis Barker and others on ‘Train Kept A Rollin’, ‘Walk This Way’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’.
“We’re talking about it,” Perry said. “I mean, except for like, anything on the calendar, we’re all alive and well, so, you know, we’ll just have to see, you know? I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one, but I don’t know, man. We’ll just have to see.”
When asked whether Tyler is physically able to play a full show of Aerosmith hits, Perry added: “You know, I think he would. I think it’s just a matter of getting there.”
Both Perry and Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton have expressed a desire to play at least one final performance to round out the band’s legacy. With Tyler sounding on form this year, it’s hopefully a matter of “when” not “if”.
