Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has developed a surprisingly wholesome touring hobby: taking his bandmates to Bass Pro Shops for their first ever visit.
Now, Dave Grohl has been pulled into the tradition, while Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters are currently sharing stages across North America on the Take Cover Tour, Homme has revived his unofficial Bass Pro Shops series, documenting the latest excursion with Grohl, who apparently had never experienced the enormous outdoors retail chain before (per Loudwire).
The whole thing started earlier this year when Homme took Queens of the Stone Age drummer Jon Theodore to Bass Pro Shops during the band’s Catacombs touring run.
Theodore’s reaction to the store’s famously elaborate interiors, packed with taxidermied animals and outdoor themed displays, was predictably priceless.
“Look at all of these carcasses,” the drummer yelled upon entering the store.
Homme, meanwhile, seemed completely at home, acting as both cameraman and guide as Theodore took in the experience.
The pair later returned with their haul, which included bear spray for Homme and a fishing rod and reel for Theodore.
Dave’s turn
Fast forward to the current Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age tour, and Homme has apparently decided Grohl is next, in the latest video, Homme introduces Grohl to the store with a fairly appropriate comparison.
“It’s kind of like Disneyland, what do you think?” Homme asks. Grohl’s response? Mostly stunned silence.
The pair eventually make their way through the store, with Grohl browsing some particularly questionable merchandise, including hats shaped like alligator heads, fish shaped thongs and a Bluetooth speaker that he proudly carries to the checkout.
Grohl even walks past a Bass Pro Shops employee who appears completely unfazed by his presence.
“Hey, how you doing?” Grohl politely asks, she gives him a quick response and keeps walking.
The tradition continues
For Homme, it seems the Bass Pro Shops tradition is becoming a genuine part of life on the road, and with Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters continuing their respective touring schedules, there’s every chance another unsuspecting rock star could be introduced to the outdoors megastore before the year is out. Maybe he needs to go to Bunnings when in Australia?
Foo Fighters And Queens Of The Stone Age Are Both Returning To Australia
While the two bands are currently sharing stages in North America, Australian fans will get the chance to catch both acts Down Under later this year, although on separate headline tours.
Foo Fighters will return to Australia in November for their massive stadium run, with the band also heading back to New Zealand and Perth in January 2027.
