Karnivool has shared their fourth single, ‘Opal,’ taken from their highly anticipated record In Verses, releasing February 6, 2026 via Cymatic Records.

Aussie prog legends Karnivool have shared their fourth single from their highly anticipated record In Verses, releasing February 6, 202,6 via Cymatic Records / Sony Music.

While previous singles from the album have brought Karnivool’s trademark ferocity, ‘Opal’ is more of a slow burn, opening with a bittersweet, introspective sound. The song kicks into gear a few minutes in for an epic emotional catharsis that’s sure to knock your socks off.

Guitarist Drew Goddard would share in a press statement: “‘Opal’ pulls together ideas from some of my earliest days writing with the band. The riff in the middle and end was actually the first thing I recorded in the Themata era, on a computer at my parents’ house. Twenty years later, it found its place here.”

Goddard would share more about the song’s history, admitting, “Jon [Stockman] dug it up, and we made it feel more current. The verse that starts with ‘You’ve been holding up…’ was a section left off [our song] ‘Aeons’ from Asymmetry (2013). The whole track came together in a way we’ve never really experienced before – these old, separate ideas suddenly just fell into place.”

In Versus marks the band’s first full-length release in over 12 years, following 2013’s Asymmetry. The forthcoming record promises to explore the band’s feelings of frustration and catharsis over the past 10 years, leading to their newfound identity.

The band would break out in 2009 with their ARIA-Award winning album Sound Awake, launching them into a global powerhouse that could unite the snobbiest of prog heads to your most local pub rock enjoyer.

Now, after spending over 10 years refining new material, the band are gearing up to release what will hopefully be another stellar record that cements their status as modern prog legends.
