The upcoming release will be the band’s first album in over 12 years, since 2013’s Asymmetry, and was produced with longtime collaborator Forrester Savell.

Following the release of the album, fans were edged, waiting to hear new music from the group. Over the years, Karnivool would share updates that they were in the studio working on new music, only to follow with radio silence.

The band would eventually surprise drop the single ‘All It Takes’ back in 2021; however, they revealed that the track was just a standalone release.

It wasn’t until July this year that the band would release the single ‘Drone’ and officially confirm that it was, in fact, part of an upcoming album. In an interview with Stereoboard, vocalist Ian Kenny spilled that they were originally looking at an October release and that the album would be closer to 2009’s Sound Awake.

And now, earlier today, the band have officially given us a release date and shared the new track ‘Aozora’, which the band have been playing on their recent tour.

In a statement, Kenny shared that the song ‘Aozora’ takes influence from the Japanese term for ‘blue sky’, yearning for freedom from complexity and oppression.

“The whole theme for that song is escaping, or waiting to escape,” offers vocalist Ian Kenny. “Trying to find a way to escape yourself. The idea of finding freedom in the blue. Trying to find freedom amongst the complications of just being human. We’re so weird, you know? Trying to understand that at different times along the road, sometimes you end up with more questions than answers.” You can look at the full track list for In Verses below.
