The Aussie Prog Legends are finally looking to drop their fourth LP this year, according to frontman Ian Kenny.
After a 12 year drought, Karnivool are finally gearing up to drop a follow-up to their 2013 album Aysmmetry.
Just last month, the Australian Prog legends cold dropped their new song ‘Drone’, their first single in over four years. Unlike their previous single, ‘Drone’ came with it the confirmation of a new album heading our way, one we’d get to hear sooner than later.
In an interview with Stereoboard, vocalist Ian Kenny spilled a few details on what we can expect and finally gave us a release date to look forward to.
“We’re looking at an October release. Can’t believe I’ve said that out loud; that’s f****g wild, man,” shared Kenny. “It all still feels very new, but it’s not as demanding, I don’t think, as [2013’s] ‘Asymmetry’. That was a hard record to chew through, but that was the intention. It may be closer to [2009’s] ‘Sound Awake’.”
So, there you have it. The long wait for new Karnivool music is over and sooner than expected! However, until an official announcement comes from the band, this date could still change. And, honestly, until I have the album in my very hands I’d still be sceptical of any official release date.
While Kenny didn’t reveal the album title, he did give us a few hints of what the new music will sound like. “There are definitely heavy parts to it. There are some really dirty, dirty bits to it; some very weird stuff, too,” shared the singer. “There’s a song on there called Remote Self Control… It’s weird but it’s wicked, it’s got these really heavy parts and it kicks the gates in as soon as it starts.”.

The frontman also revealed the song ‘Mono-poly’ would be a “sad, dark and weird as hell” track. “Jon [Stockman] does this Moog synth thing at the end, which is the weirdest shit I’ve ever heard.”
I know when it comes to Karnivool, it’s important to keep expectations grounded, but I won’t lie, I’m dying to hear more. Hopefully this October release day sticks so we get to hear these tracks in full soon.
Karinvool are just about to embark on their Ad Complementum tour across Australia, supported by BIG NOTER. So, maybe we’ll get to hear some of the new material there. You can see tour dates here.
