Kevin Parker Of Tame Impala Slept Through His Grammy Win

Share

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker admits the Grammys completely slipped his mind. “I’m going to be dead honest with you. I forgot they were even on.”

Awards ceremonies are fraught things – you know they’re all problematic to one degree or another, but it’s probably not a good idea to get too invested in the damn things – that way lies heartbreak and madness. But Tame Impala founder Kevin Parker may have set a new high bar for cool indifference. In a wide-ranging chat with old mate and fellow early 2000s indie veteran Mac DeMarco for Interview Magazine, Parker revealed that he slept through the ceremony.

At the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on February 1, Tame Impala scooped up the Best Dance/Electronic Recording prize for the single “End Of Summer”, beating out fellow nominees Disclosure & Anderson .Paak for “No Cap”; Fred Again, Skepta & PlaqueBoyMax for “Victory Lap”; Kaytranada for “Space Invader”; and Skrillex for “Voltage”. It was Tame Impala’s second consecutive win in the category, having come out on top in 2025 with “Neverender”, their collab with French electronica outfit Justice.

But Parker skipped it – in fact he snoozed through it – presumably in the Fremantle home where his half of the Zoom interview with DeMarco took place.

“Look, I’m going to be dead honest with you,” Parker admitted. “I forgot they were even on.”

“No, I forgot that I was nominated as well, he went on to say. “You have to imagine my confusion because in Australia, we wake up and then we find out about what happened in America last night, so my phone has absolutely blown up. I’ve got 30 messages on my phone, all saying congratulations. None of them are saying what for. And I’m like, ‘What for, motherfuckers?'”

Which is, on balance, a very Freo attitude towards the whole affair.
