Kid Rock Wanted Bad Bunny Dropped From Super Bowl Halftime In Favour Of Metallica

Kid Rock has never been shy about airing his opinions, and this week he’s set his sights on the Super Bowl LX halftime show.

Appearing on Fox & Friends in the lead up to the game, Kid Rock took issue with the NFL’s decision to book Bad Bunny as the headline act, the Puerto Rican superstar is set to become the first solo Latino artist to perform a predominantly Spanish-language halftime show, a move the league has framed as part of its push to reach a broader and more diverse audience.

Kid Rock wasn’t impressed.

According to him, the NFL is forgetting who’s actually filling the stadiums and tuning in every Sunday, he argued the league should be prioritising rock fans instead and name checked Metallica as the obvious choice to take over the halftime stage.

“If the NFL really were all about its stated goals and really wanted to take care of their fan base… there’s a band that checks every single box from San Francisco, by the name of Metallica.”

It’s not exactly a random suggestion, Metallica formed in 1981, later settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have sold over 125 million albums worldwide while collecting nine Grammy Awards along the way (per Alternative Nation).

Their 1991 single ‘Enter Sandman’ has long been a fixture at NFL games, often blasting through stadium speakers during key moments, something Kid Rock believes makes them tailor made for the halftime spotlight.

Bay Area Royality

He also floated the idea of expanding the performance to include Bay Area hip-hop royalty, suggesting local icons E-40 and Too Short could be worked into the show to give it a regional edge.

Despite Kid Rock’s objections, the NFL isn’t budging, Bad Bunny remains locked in as the official Super Bowl LX halftime performer, continuing the league’s recent run of pop and hip-hop led shows following appearances by Rihanna, The Weeknd, and Dr. Dre’s West Coast heavy spectacle.

We are less than two hours away from Super Bowl LX getting underway, with a 10.30am AEDT start time as the Patriots and Seahawks battle it out.
