Korn Spark New Album Rumours After Studio Photo Surfaces Online

Are Korn quietly cooking up a new record?

A now deleted Instagram post has sent fans into speculation mode after guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer was spotted in the studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz and mixing heavyweight Chris Lord-Alge (per Metal Injection)

The image, originally shared on Lord-Alge’s personal account before being removed, showed Munky alongside the two producers with the caption:

“What a blast with Nick Raskulinecz and Munkey mixing Korn!! Heavy badass rock!!!”

Raskulinecz previously worked with Korn on 2019’s ‘The Nothing’, while Lord-Alge’s resume stretches across Green Day and My Chemical Romance., not exactly a casual jam session lineup.

But Didn’t Head Say There’s No Rush?

The timing is interesting, just last week, guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch told Loudwire the band aren’t prioritising a new album:

“We’re a fortunate band, we’ve been around for awhile and we’ve got an extensive catalogue with a lot of well-known songs. We’re focusing right now on our live show… it feels like we don’t even need a new album. Everything’s just going so well, but that’s not to say we’re not going to find some time to go in again. I feel like it’s not priority right now.”

He also added, “I really love the fact that it’s taking a long time. I always told management that I wish that we would wait a little bit between albums. We’re just so addicted to the studio that we get in there and we’re putting albums out every two or three years, ever since I rejoined. And so, I love that there’s been delays.”

That doesn’t exactly scream imminent release cycle, but bands say one thing and quietly track riffs all the time.

So What’s Going On?

There’s no official confirmation of a new Korn album at this stage, it could be early mixing sessions, leftover material or nothing more than experimentation.

Still, seeing Munky back in the studio with Raskulinecz is enough to raise eyebrows. ‘The Nothing’ hit hard, and if that same creative team is back in the room, something is definitely moving.

Whether it’s a full length follow up or just a test drive remains unclear, but if Lord-Alge’s caption was any indication, whatever they’re working on sounds heavy.
