Hudson’s Haul: Linkin Park Fan Gets Transformers Megatron Figure Signed By The Band

Share

A Linkin Park fan in Melbourne just pulled off a surprisingly wholesome piece of rock and robot history, managing to get a sealed Transformers Megatron figure signed by the band during their Rod Laver Arena show.

The mission belonged to Hudson Hair, who arrived early with a very specific plan.

Armed with early entry through LPU, Hudson entered the arena around 4.30pm carrying a boxed Megatron toy from 2007, he had actually debated bringing a larger leader scale version of the figure but ultimately chose the smaller voyager scale version, the thinking was simple. A bigger box might not survive the security check.

Once the floor opened around 5.45pm, Hudson and his group secured a spot right against the barricade in the GA section, not long after settling in, Linkin Park drummer Colin Brittain appeared to greet early entrants.

Most fans were holding out VIP lanyards for signatures, Hudson held out Megatron.

The toy was still sealed from 2007, the same year Linkin Park’s ‘What I’ve Done’ appeared on the soundtrack for Michael Bay’s Transformers. When Brittain heard the story behind it, he was into the idea and signed the box on the spot.

Hudson then asked if the rest of the band could add their signatures too, Brittain handed the figure to a staff member who took it backstage while he continued greeting fans.

The gamble paid off.

During Polaris’ opening set, the staffer returned to the barricade with the now historic box, the Megatron figure had been signed by Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell, Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain.

By that point, the surrounding crowd had caught onto the mission, when the figure made its way back through the pit covered in signatures, fans nearby erupted in cheers.

Why Megatron?

The Transformers connection actually runs deeper than a soundtrack cameo, in an August 2025 interview, Mike Shinoda revealed the early demo titles that led to ‘What I’ve Done’.

He wrote four demos inspired by the characters: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Starscream and Megatron, the track labelled ‘Megatron’ eventually evolved into the song that would become one of Linkin Park’s most recognisable singles.

With the pit about to erupt once Linkin Park took the stage, Hudson handed the signed box to security. The guard carefully passed it to a friend in the seated section so the collectible wouldn’t get crushed during the show.

Mission accomplished, Megatron survived the night.
