Listen to Yungblud’s mashup of Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne

Share

Brit-rock connoisseur Yungblud is on some king shit right now. In a session with BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, the UK artist paid tribute to two of our generation’s icons – Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne – well and truly continuing his streak of flawless covers (see his recent ‘Smoko’ demonstration.)

Flexing a rendition of Taylor Swift’s recent ‘Cardigan’, a cut from our uncontested number one album of the year, folklore, the ‘Blud throws in some Avril for good measure, tying in ‘I’m With You’. What comes out is a delightfully emo ballad, complete with cello, a Billie Joe Armstrong-esque fit and some customary pink socks. Queen Taylor Swift herself has endorsed the cover, stating that it took her breath away. She added that she’s honoured to hear ‘Cardigan’ intertwined with Lavigne’s early 2000s masterpiece.

This Live Lounge appearance is in support of Yungblud’s upcoming album, Weird!, which is set to be released sooner rather than later on the 13th of November. His recent announcement of the record was accompanied by new single and clip ‘God Save Me, But Don’t Drown Me Out.’ It follows on from 2020 singles ‘Weird’, ‘Strawberry Lipstick’, ‘Lemonade’ featuring Denzel Curry and of course an unforgettable collab on ‘Obey’ with none other than metalcore titans Bring Me The Horizon.

Speaking on the Bring Me The Horizon x Yungblud fusion, the latter articulated: “Robots follow robots, because they feel nothing at all. But what they don’t realize is that to us, to be different is to be free, and a world of fucking love and equality is a world we want to be part of. We will rise above the hate and the diversion. We will fight for the world we want to be a part of. We will not obey.” An honourable message, if we do say so ourselves.
