Machine Gun Kelly has reignited his long running feud with Conor McGregor, taking a swipe at the former UFC champion after his highly anticipated return to the Octagon ended almost as quickly as it began.
McGregor’s first UFC fight in five years lasted just 69 seconds before being stopped after he appeared to suffer a serious knee injury early in the opening round against Max Holloway at UFC 329. The Irish fighter had billed the contest as “the comeback of all comebacks in sports history”, but the night unravelled almost immediately when he landed awkwardly following an attempted kick and was unable to continue.
It didn’t take long for MGK to weigh in (per NME):
Posting to Instagram after the fight, the musician appeared to reference both McGregor’s injury and their well-publicised history, writing:
“Knees weak of old age the real conor can’t stand up.”
A five year rivalry
The jab is the latest chapter in a rivalry that dates back to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, where McGregor and Kelly were involved in a heated confrontation on the red carpet, videos from the event showed the pair being separated by security before McGregor was escorted away.
At the time, a representative for McGregor told Page Six that he “only fights fighters.”
A controversial return
McGregor’s return had already attracted significant attention beyond the fight itself, his comeback came after years away from UFC competition and amid ongoing public controversy surrounding his legal history.
In 2025, an Irish civil court found McGregor liable in a civil sexual assault case brought by Nikita Hand and awarded damages. McGregor has consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that the encounter was consensual.
More recently, his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon also drew criticism from some viewers and public figures who questioned the decision to feature him.
For MGK, there was no lengthy statement, just a pointed social media post that quickly reignited one of celebrity culture’s more unexpected feuds.
Whether McGregor chooses to respond remains to be seen, but after years of silence between the pair, it appears the bad blood hasn’t gone anywhere.
