Share

Bungie has set a new preview weekend for its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon later this month, making it the last chance for gamers to try the game for free before it launches on March 6th.

In case you missed it last year or want to dive back in, Marathon is set to have yet another open preview weekend ahead of its March 6th release date later this month.

Announced at the most recent PlayStation State of Play, developers Bungie gave us an all-new look at the upcoming extraction shooter, showing off a new trailer. In it, we got a new look at the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV, and the sci-fi horror lurking beneath its surface.

Bungie would also confirm when its final open preview weekend would occur, giving players one last chance to get hands-on with the game before deciding whether to buy it when it releases.

Here’s everything you need to know.

When will Marathon’s next preview server slam occur?

Marathon‘s upcoming preview weekend will run from 5am on February 27, 2026 AEDT to 5am on March 3rd AEDT.

The playtest will be available on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S, and will feature crossplay, so you can squad up with your friends on any console.

The open beta will feature a “limited selection of maps, Runner shells, and contracts” for players to test out over the preview period, with more maps, factions, contracts, gear, and more to be released at launch and during its first season.

Unfortunately, progress made here won’t carry over to the full game. However, players will earn some neared tiered gera packages which may come in clutch once the game finally drops.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will also get their hands on three unique weapon charms paying homage to Helldivers 2Death Stranding 2, and Ghost of Yōtei. You can redeem these by visiting the PlayStation Plus Exclusive Packs page after Marathon‘s release.

What is Marathon about?

Marathon is an upcoming extraction shooter from Bungie, most known for creating the Halo franchise, and later, Destiny.

Keeping in touch with the studios roots, Marathon is a Player vs Player vs Environment first-person shooter set on the dangerous planet of Tau Ceti IV. You take on the role of a “Runner”, a gun-for-hire brought on to explore the planet, loot any precious artifacts or intel you can find, and do your best to escape with it.

If you die, not only will you lose anything you looted, but you’ll also lose the gear you go in with, so you’ll have to weigh your options on whether you want to risk your gear for a greater haul of goods.

Marathon is set to release on March 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam for $59.95.
