Megadeth Tease Final Album With Snippet of New Track ‘Tipping Point’

Megadeth have dropped the first taste of what will be their last ever studio album. The record is set to land in 2026, under Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft label in partnership with Frontiers’ BLKIIBLK imprint. Mustaine has shared their first track ‘Tipping Point’, drops next Friday October 3, and has given us a brief 30 second clip, hinting at the intensity fans have come to expect from thrash metal’s architects.

Mustaine, never one to mince words, was upfront about the weight of the decision when announcing the band’s final chapter:

“There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now… The hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye… This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years.”

He added that Megadeth’s exit will be a celebration of their impact:

“We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it’s played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.”

Formed in 1983 after Mustaine’s infamous ejection from Metallica, Megadeth went on to shape thrash metal with Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good! (1985) and the game-changing Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? (1986). Classics like Rust in Peace (1990) and Countdown to Extinction (1992) cemented their status as one of the Big Four.

Despite turbulence, line-up shake ups, substance battles, and Mustaine’s near career ending arm injury, the band endured, winning a Grammy with 2016’s Dystopia. Now, with ‘Tipping Point’, Megadeth are staring down their final bow.
