Brooklyn indie-jazz artist Mei Semones has confirmed her long awaited debut Australian tour, locking in headline shows for Sydney and Melbourne this June.

The rising singer, songwriter and guitarist will perform two intimate club dates, hitting Sydney’s The Lansdowne on June 11th and Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on June 14th.

A Rising Name Out Of Brooklyn

Semones has spent the past few years building a reputation as one of the more distinctive young artists to emerge from Brooklyn’s indie scene, signed to Bayonet Records, the label behind bands like Beach Fossils, Semones released her debut album ‘Animaru’ last year. The record quickly earned attention for its fluid songwriting and bilingual lyricism, drifting between English and Japanese with a natural ease.

Her musical background runs deeper than most indie newcomers, before stepping fully into the spotlight, Semones studied jazz at Berklee College of Music, where she immersed herself in the language of chord progressions, improvisation and classic recordings.

That technical grounding sits quietly beneath her songs, the result feels delicate but intentional, it’s indie songwriting shaped by jazz instinct.

New EP ‘Kurage’ On The Way

The tour announcement arrives just ahead of Semones’ next release, her upcoming EP ‘Kurage’ is due out April 10th, offering another glimpse into the songwriter’s evolving sound. The first preview, ‘Koneko’ (above), features British-Brazilian artist Liana Flores and leans into soft bossa nova textures.

The track captures small, everyday moments rather than grand statements, walking along a canal, sharing tea, eating strawberries with close friends, it’s a gentle reminder that not every song needs to shout to leave a mark.

A Global Run Before Australia

Despite being just 25, Semones has already taken her music across Japan, the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom, performing headline shows and sharing stages with artists like Elephant Gym, Kara Jackson and Liana Flores.

Those performances have helped position her as a quiet but steadily growing presence in indie circles, several outlets, including The FADER, Pigeons & Planes and The New York Times, have already tipped her as an artist to watch (per press release).
