Miley Cyrus Lashes Awards Season “There is no single best, it’s only our personal best work”

Miley Cyrus spoke out against the competitiveness of awards season – ironically while at the Palm Springs Film Awards.

Miley Cyrus has voiced her distaste for the competitiveness inherent in awards season. It’s with no small irony that she made her comments at an awards ceremony – specifically the Palm Springs Film Awards, which took place on Saturday. Cyrus was being lauded for her song “Dream As One” for the soundtrack to James Cameron‘s Avatar: Fire And Ash.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cyrus took the opportunity to air a few (fairly mild, it must be said) grievances about the whole awards season schmozzle, noting that, since the honorees at the Palm Spring Film Awards are announced prior to the actual ceremony, it took the edge off things.

“So often during awards season, we’re set up as competitors, but we’re meant to be a community, not opponents,” Cyrus said. “There is no single best, it’s only our personal best work. Numbers can make it feel like a sport, but performance runs so much deeper than a scoreboard, because each artist, they bare their soul in a completely unique way, and every contribution leaves its own mark on history.”

She went on say that “…whether you’re in or out of this industry, we all have a persona, even the ones that are rooted in authenticity, because self creation is an art form, and all of us, we perform genuinely.”

Cyrus also took the opportunity to praise Cameron’s Avatar team and thanked the Awards for honouring the film and “…recognizing their work that I’m totally backpacking off of. They’ve worked on this movie for 16 years; I’ve been involved for like a month, and I get to go to all the same events!”
