Morrissey Cancels First Shows For 2026

Morrissey has canceled two gigs in California this week, following on from several cancellations in late 2025.

You’re really rolling the dice when you’re a Morrissey fan. Not only do you have to field questions like “Really?” and “Still?” on a regular basis, but when Mozza deigns to do a live show, there’s a pretty high chance he won’t show. It’s Schrodinger’s International Playboy; the light that never goes out may well read “Cancelled”.

Such was the case this week, as Morrissey cancelled two shows in California: at Rancho Mirage on Saturday, January 3, and in San Diego on Tuesday, January 6, per Rolling Stone.

In a post on the Morrissey-Solo website, the reason for the Rancho Mirage show was given as an adverse reaction to medication, citing an email from etix.

“Due to an adverse reaction to a prescription medication, the Morrissey concert originally scheduled on Saturday January 3, 2026 has been postponed.

“Please hold onto your tickets as they will be honored for a rescheduled date. Should you wish to request a refund, please contact your original point of purchase.”

The venue, Augua Caliente Casinos, posted the same statement shortly after. A fan fumed that this was the third time the show had been cancelled.

Hilariously, the site hosts a Will He Cancel? poll, where fans can vote on the possibility of Morrissey pulling the plug on any given gig.

As for the San Diego show, no promise of a reschedule Mozza experience was forthcoming, with The San Diego Civic Theatre posting on social media that “refunds are available at point of purchase.”

This follows on from Morrissey canning a number of shows at the tail end of 2025, blaming “extreme exhaustion”. The former singer for The Smiths torpedoed his entire South American tour, inclouding shows in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Santiago, Chile; Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia, plus December shows scheduled in Athens, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; and Ankara, Turkey.

He does have a couple of records due soon, though. Theoretically.
