Norwegian darkwave architect Mortiis has returned from the shadows with the announcement of his new studio album ‘Ghosts Of Europa’, due out June 26th, 2026 via Prophecy Productions.
Alongside the reveal, he’s also unveiled the album’s eerie title track, paired with a cinematic video directed by Claudio Marino, it’s the first proper glimpse into a record that already feels steeped in atmosphere and unease.
A song that refused to stay still
The title track didn’t come together easily, according to Mortiis, it shifted form repeatedly before settling into what it is now (per Lambgoat).
“This song has tried many shapes and forms, until it finally sort of found itself. I never thought that it would end up this way. Strange, mysterious, and choral. It started out as a simple thing, a different song, with a different title, which got slowly de-constructed and altered. This did not happen due to dissatisfaction with the original, but because layers of new ideas appeared. As excited as I am about this new ‘entity’ and the way it shaped up, the title, that has already been in existence for years, feels slightly, and sadly, prophetic – although that was never my intention.”
That sense of evolution bleeds into the track itself, it’s less about immediate impact and more about slow, creeping immersion, the kind of sound that builds tension rather than releasing it.

A new era with Prophecy Productions
‘Ghosts Of Europa’ marks Mortiis’ first release with Prophecy Productions, a label known for leaning into the darker, more experimental corners of heavy music.
If the title track is anything to go by, this record isn’t chasing trends, it’s digging deeper into the unsettling textures and cold, expansive soundscapes that Mortiis has been circling for years.
