It’s the Upside Down Down Under as Netflix unveils a horde of activations ahead of Stranger Things‘ final bow.
Stranger Things is almost over! Some of you have complicated feelings about that – I know I do. Sure, I’m curious to see how it all shakes out and whether the Duffer brothers will stick the landing, but I’m also well aware that the series has outstayed its welcome by a few years, with attendant problems related to biology – you can make your own “those kids are in their 30s” joke now, if you like.
Or you can make it at Sydney Harbour, Luna Park, or some random bus stop, as the Netflix marketing machine plunges the harbour city into the Upside Down for the final big publicity push before our last trip to Hawkins, Indiana.
NFI on that bus stop thing, but it seems that at least the Coogee Bay Hotel stop has found itself subject to the arcane forces that bubble beneath the streets of Hawkins, as you can see:

I mean, you can find the same effect in Newtown at 3am on a Sunday morning, but A for effort nonetheless.
But in stranger stranger things news, Netflix will be lighting up Sydney Harbour to mark the end of the Duffer brothers’ ’80s-set saga. To wit:
On 25 & 26 November, grab your bike, gather your besties, and watch as Sydney Harbour is swallowed by a haunting red glow, with an eerie projection lighting up the night sky as the Upside Down breaks through.
Where to watch: The spectacle will play on repeat from 8:30pm each night, taking over the night sky and visible from viewing points all around the Harbour.
The best view: Fans can head to the Northern Wharf at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) for front-row chills to the Upside Down.
Extra strange: On 26 November, the Harbour Bar at Squire’s Landing will transform into a Hawkins hotspot with themed photo moments and a special viewing deck for those stopping who are brave enough to get closer to the rift.
And if that’s not enough, Luna Park is getting the retro horror experience from November 28. As the presser helpfully and enthusiastically tells us:
By popular demand, Stranger Things: The Experience is returning to Luna Park Sydney for one last run, just in time for the final season.
Returning with all the beloved elements that captivated Sydneysiders in its successful debut earlier this year, the iconic Crystal Palace at Luna Park will once again become an immersive gateway into the supernatural world of Stranger Things, infused with eerie mystery and vibrant 1980s nostalgia. Fans can get involved in the action by purchasing tickets HERE.
Stranger Things season 5 hits Netflix on November 27 with one of the most annoying release schedules ever devised:
Volume 1: November 27, 2025 at 12:00pm AEDT.
Volume 2: December 26, 2025 at 12:00pm AEDT.
The Finale: January 1, 2026 at 12:00pm AEDT.
