Northlane Return With New Single ‘Evian’ As A New Era Starts To Take Shape

Share

Northlane ‘Evian’ has landed, marking the first clear signal that the band are stepping into a new phase, and it’s anything but predictable.

The Australian heavyweights have released the standalone single independently, pushing further into the space they’ve spent the last decade carving out, if anything, ‘Evian’ feels like another deliberate pivot rather than a continuation.

Between Euphoria And Collapse

Sonically, ‘Evian’ swings between extremes, there’s a trance like lift in its opening moments before it caves in under the weight of crushing, low end breakdowns, that push and pull has always been part of Northlane’s identity, but here it feels sharper, more controlled.

Lyrically, it cuts a bit deeper than usual (per press release).

“Evian is about self-improvement through confronting trauma then finding your way back to someone from a healthier place. It explores the choice to grow on your own rather than dragging others down with you, making a conscious effort to heal before your struggles start affecting the people you care about.”

It’s heavy subject matter, but it doesn’t feel dressed up, there’s a directness to it that lines up with where Marcus Bridge has been heading in recent releases.

Still Pushing Forward

More than ten years in, Northlane aren’t slowing down or settling into a formula, with multiple ARIA No. 1 albums and a catalogue that’s racked up over 500 million streams, they’ve already cemented their place at the front of the genre, but ‘Evian’ suggests they’re still more interested in reshaping things than repeating them.

That fusion of metal and electronic elements is still there, but it feels more fluid now, less like a signature and more like a tool they can bend however they want.

What Comes Next

The release arrives in the middle of another packed touring run, Northlane are currently heading across North America with Dayseeker before jumping into a stacked European festival circuit, including Bloodstock and Summer Breeze.

They’ll be back on home soil soon after, with a spot locked in for the Hellbound Cruise’s first voyage, and more local announcements expected to follow.
