Ocean Sleeper Hit Harder Than Ever On Defiant New Single ‘Break The Cycle’

Share

Regional Victorian metalcore outfit Ocean Sleeper are entering a new chapter swinging harder than ever, unveiling their crushing new single ‘Break The Cycle’ alongside a towering cinematic video that feels built for bigger stages and even bigger emotional fallout.

For a band that’s spent the better part of the last decade clawing their way out of Gippsland while balancing day jobs in trades, the track feels less like a standard release and more like a statement of survival.

You can hear every kilometre of that grind in it, check out the video below:

Built around massive melodic hooks, bruising riffs and a sharpened sense of urgency, ‘Break The Cycle’ captures Ocean Sleeper at their most focused yet, the band worked on the track with Point North’s Jon Lundin after bringing the US act to Australia for their sold out 2025 tour, before reconnecting overseas during a run that also included appearances around Warped Tour.

The result pushes the band further into arena sized metalcore territory without sanding off the emotional weight that’s always separated them from the endless pile of interchangeable heavy acts floating around online.

“This song captures our struggle in breaking out of Australia and into the global touring market as an independent band,” the band shared.

“It’s fast paced, heavier than before, while still keeping the emotional depth with one of our biggest choruses to date. We instantly knew this song was going to be something special.”

That tension between ambition and exhaustion sits at the core of the track, Ocean Sleeper have never had the luxury of an easy rise. Coming from regional Victoria, far outside the traditional industry machine, the band have built their following through relentless touring, word of mouth momentum and songs that hit people where it hurts.

Since forming in 2015, they’ve steadily evolved from underground metalcore hopefuls into one of Australia’s most emotionally resonant heavy bands. Releases like ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ and 2025’s ‘Maybe Death Is All I Need’ leaned heavily into vulnerability without losing their sheer sonic weight.

Now, with fresh backing from BMG Australia and Rise Records in the US, Ocean Sleeper feel poised to finally push beyond cult status.

If ‘Break The Cycle’ is any indication, they’re not arriving quietly.
