Ozzfest is officially coming back in 2027, with Sharon Osbourne confirming the long running heavy metal festival will return after nearly a decade off the road.
Speaking at MIDEM in Cannes, Sharon made it clear the resurrection is locked in: “Yes, absolutely. Yeah, we’re gonna do it.”
The last Ozzfest took place in 2018 at The Forum in Los Angeles, just weeks before Ozzy Osbourne’s health took a serious turn, according to Sharon, there were never plans to shut it down (per the PRP).
‘It’s A Brand’
“…The last one we did was 2018. It was just a month before Ozzy got sick… And there was no plans to stop it. We were still gonna do it, but Ozzy couldn’t,” she explained.
She also revealed Ozzy himself questioned whether the festival could survive without him front and centre:
“And Ozzy and I would talk about it, and he’d say, ‘Do you think Ozzfest would work without me?’ And I’m, like, ‘Yeah, it’s a brand. It will work without you.’ And he said, ‘We should do it.’”
For longtime metal fans, that statement hits hard, Ozzfest was never just another touring bill, it was a rite of passage.
A Festival That Built Heavy Music
Launched in 1996 after Ozzy was reportedly rejected by Lollapalooza, Ozzfest quickly became a proving ground for heavy music’s next wave, System Of A Down, Slipknot and a long list of now household metal names cut their teeth on those stages.
Earlier reports suggest the 2027 edition will return as a travelling festival, not a one off destination event like 2018.
For Australian fans, the obvious question is whether the roadshow stretches this far south, if it’s returning in full touring form, you’d imagine global ambitions are part of the plan.
For now, it’s simple: Ozzfest is back and metal’s most infamous carnival might be gearing up for another lap.
