Ozzy Osbourne Hits UK Vinyl Chart Milestone With Billy Morrison’s ‘Gods Of Rock N Roll’

Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy just clocked up another win, and this one’s got that collector bait vinyl shine to match.

Following the release of a double A-side vinyl picture disc earlier this month, Billy Morrison and Ozzy Osbourne’s collaborative track ‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ has officially debuted at No. 3 on the UK Vinyl Singles Chart.

It’s a massive result, and according to Morrison’s camp (via Forbes), it marks the first time Ozzy has ever landed on the UK Vinyl Singles Chart as a solo artist, a rare new milestone for a career that’s already been carved into rock history with a blunt instrument.

A song years in the making

‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ originally began life as a writing collaboration between Morrison and Osbourne back in 2015, but the track has now resurfaced with a bigger, more cinematic scope.

The label TLG | ZOID reportedly pushed to fully realise Ozzy’s vision by giving the song a full orchestral arrangement, transforming it from a straight rock cut into something with a bit more weight behind the riffs.

“We jumped at the chance to honor Ozzy’s creative vision,” said Peter Tsiolis for TLG | ZOID.

“During the filming of the music video, Ozzy was truly energized by the idea of releasing this alongside ‘Crack Cocaine’ as a limited-edition collector’s vinyl. While it is deeply bittersweet that he is not here to see this moment, we are honored to have played a part in securing his first-ever entry on the UK vinyl charts”.

Chart results and the bigger picture

Alongside the vinyl chart debut, the single also made moves on the broader sales charts:

  • UK Official Singles Sales Chart: debut at No. 14
  • UK Official Physical Singles Chart: debuted at No. 3

The track has also had traction in the US before this, hitting No. 5 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart and No. 10 on Mainstream Rock Airplay.

The picture disc release is a double A-side, pairing ‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ with ‘Crack Cocaine’, and it’s now being positioned as a centrepiece of the deluxe edition of Morrison’s album The Morrison Project.

For a Prince of Darkness moment, it’s strangely fitting, loud, polished, and still managing to rattle the charts.
