Phil Anselmo has shut down A.I. fuelled health rumours after false social media posts claimed the Pantera frontman had been diagnosed with blood cancer.
The claims, which began circulating via an A.I. generated page, spread quickly enough that Anselmo felt the need to address them directly, at 57, the metal icon jumped on his official socials to make one thing clear: he’s not sick, and he’s not slowing down (per Metal Sucks).
‘Ladies and gentlemen, Philip H. Anselmo here. There’s an A.I. page that is going bananas about me, and it’s putting out bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. I’m healthy as a horse. There’s incredible stuff going on. Mixing the new Down. King Parrot is coming into town. Performing the new En Minor in the studio, trying to get that finished. There’s a zillion things going on. Anyway, I hope everybody else is healthy, as we are over here. Much love to you, and thank you everyone who wished me a speedy recovery and all that. Come on. Damn A.I. shit.’
In true Anselmo fashion this is no vague PR statement or management buffer, just Phil, looking straight down the lens and calling it what it is.
A grim reminder
It’s a grim reminder of how quickly A.I. generated misinformation can spiral, especially when it targets artists with decades long legacies, Anselmo has weathered more than his share of chaos over the years, but this one was pure fabrication.
If anything, he sounds flat out busy, after wrapping up a lengthy run of shows with the Pantera celebration, he’s back in grind mode. A new Down record is being mixed, and En Minor, his brooding, gothic tinged project, is back under the microscope in the studio and King Parrot dropping into town only adds to the noise.
The key takeaway is simple, there’s no health crisis or farewell tour looming, just another case of tech running ahead of truth, and if you needed to hear it straight from the source, you did.
