Pig Pen Rip Through ‘Rabid Beach’ Ahead of Debut Album Mental Madness

Share

Matty Matheson and Wade MacNeil’s Canadian hardcore act Pig Pen have dropped their chaotic new single ‘Rabid Beach.’

Pig Pen are back with another burst of mayhem in the form of new single ‘Rabid Beach’, a blistering two-minute hit of raw hardcore energy delivered with grit, groove, and an animated visual to match.

The track is the latest taste of their upcoming debut Mental Madness, due out June 27 via Flatspot Records. Backed by hand-drawn animation from artist Jesi Jordan, the video for ‘Rabid Beach’ captures the track’s violent momentum with jagged strokes and surreal imagery, reflecting the inner chaos that defines Pig Pen’s sound.

Formed by a stacked lineup of Canadian heavyweights – Matty Matheson (vocals), Alexisonfire’s Wade MacNeil (guitar), Daniel Romano (guitar), Ian Romano (drums), and Tommy Major (bass) – Pig Pen are carving a path through the hardcore scene with a sound that’s as filthy as it is fun. Following up their first single ‘Mental Mentality’, ‘Rabid Beach’ proves this is more than a side project.

Mental Madness came together the same way it sounds: fast, loud, and unfiltered. The band wrote the album in one day and recorded it the next, opting for a full DIY approach before sending it off to Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Fucked Up) for mixing and Alan Douches for mastering. The result is set to be ten tracks soaked in old-school hardcore and laced with the unhinged spirit of rock and roll.

Lyrically, the album dives headfirst into the uglier corners of mental health. Matheson describes it as “mental health shit” – songs about self-loathing, isolation, and the brain’s uncanny ability to sabotage even the best moments. “You can be having a beautiful day, surrounded by friends,” he says, “and your brain can continuously ruin it.”

Still, Mental Madness is far from bleak. It’s cathartic, driven by a reckless kind of joy and the power of friendship. It’s the sound of feeling everything, all at once, and finding a way to laugh and scream your way through it.
