Poker Face Is Cancelled But May Be Rebooted With Peter Dinklage Replacing Natasha Lyonne

We’re not sure if Rian Johnson is mad with grief or onto something, but he seems determined to keep Poker Face alive.

Poker Face has been cancelled! That’s a bummer – the mystery-of-the week show, which stars (or starred, I guess, Natasha Lyonne has human lie detector Charlie Cale has been a blast. We’ve dug watching Lyonne bounce around the country solving crimes, even if the show sometimes spent way too much time setting up its weird little scenarios (with attendant big name guest stars) than putting the focus on its lead. Sadly, parent company Peacock have pulled the plug. Boo, I say.

But it seems that series creator Rian Johnson has a plan, and that plan involves shopping around a further two seasons of Poker Face to whoever’s buying. There is a wrinkle, though: Peter Dinklage will replace Natasha Lyonne as the series lead.

Firstly, I am not drunk.

Secondly, both Variety and Deadline are reporting this, so it is a very real thing. And Lyonne is cool with it. She’ll stay on as an executive producer, while Johnson remains a writer and director on the series. the pair issued a joint statement:

“We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our Poker Face and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”

That seems to indicate that Dinklage will be playing a whole new character but honestly, who’s to say? Maybe Charlie will regenerate like Doctor Who. Maybe she’ll think she’s Dinklage. Maybe it’ll be a Freaky Friday thing. The possibilities are nigh-endless.

Johnson’s next project is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the latest adventure of suave sleuth Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) which hits Netflix on December 12.
