“Disney‘s doing a Predator cartoon” is not a sentence we ever expected to write.
Predator: Killer of Killers is the latest entry in the long-running action franchise. Kicking off with the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger action classic, Predator, the series has proved durable. We’ve had three sequels, one prequel, and two crossovers with the Alien franchise. Well, three if you count Predator 2. Those last few happened because 20th Century Fox owned both series, but Fox was bought by Disney in 2019. Which means we can say with absolutely no dissembling that Disney is making a Predator cartoon. What a world.
Predator: Killer of Killers will debut on Disney+ on June 6, 2025. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (Prey) and Josh Wassung of animation outfit The Third Floor, it’s an animated anthology feature comprising three discrete but Predator-centric stories. You want Predator vs Vikings? Vs Samurai? Vs WWII fighter planes? Congratulations, you’re getting all three. Let’s go to the trailer…
Pretty groovy.
This one is written by Micho Robert Rutare, who also cobbled together the story with Trachtenberg. Expect to here the voices of Lindsay LaVanchy, Louis Ozawa Changchien, Rick Gonzalez, and ol’ Corporal Hicks himself, Michael Biehn, although who they’re voicing is TBA. And it’s safe to say this one probably isn’t for the kids. Although I saw the original when I was 11, and I turned out fine.
In further rumblings from the Yautja-verse, don’t forget we’re getting another Predator movie this year, with Trachtenberg directing Elle Fanning in Predator: Badlands. Shot in New Zealand in 2024, that one sees Fanning’s Thia team up with a young Predator on the Pred homeworld, which we’ve yet to see on screen. Expect to see it in cinemas from November 6, Disney having learned from the mistake of sending Prey straight to streaming.
