Private Function Announce Final Shows

Having called it quits over Christmas, Melbourne punks Private Function have announced their final shows.

If you want to catch Private Function live, you’ve only got a few more chances to do so. The pugnacious Melbourne punks announced their break up over Christmas, and they’ve now announced their final ever shows, with the last stand happening on March 21 at a venue that has yet to be announced.

Formed in 2016, Private Function made it through almost 10 years and four studio albums before announcing their split on social media on Christmas Day in typical larrikin fashion, writing, “Because you’ve all been such naughty children this year we’ve decided you’re all getting the present you deserve WE’RE BREAKING UP LOL”, going on to thank fans for their support over the years and underline that they were still playing support on the upcoming Viagra Boys tour.

Bass player Milla Holland put a more serious spin on Private Function’s demise in a later post, writing, “For 9 years we destroyed our bodies and minds, we made a lot of industry people a lot of money and saw very little ourselves. It became unsustainable as we got older and more injured. The Australian music industry is parasitic and you only get more exploited the higher up they let you.

“That said I’m so grateful that i got to be a part of the band,” she concluded. “My best memories are from the early days playing small intimate shows. Music festivals are dogshit, corpos convinced us that we want them but they are vibe less environmental disasters.”

Well, be that as it may, Private Function have at least a few festival dates on the docket, as the band have announced their final run of shows on Facebook and Instagram.

“We can’t be fucked being in a band anymore,” they wrote. “It’s too annoying. But we’re going around Australia one last time this summer if you wanna come see us off x”
