Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come ups the stakes as Samara Weaving takes on an even larger cabal of inbred plutocrats.
Samara Weaving‘s tough, working class chick proved more than a match for the wealthy and diabolical (in several senses) Le Domas family in 2019’s hugely enjoyably Ready Or Not, carving her way through her new in-laws after it turned out her whole wedding was a plot to sacrifice her to the demon who has gifted them with untold riches for generations. Yep, it’s that old saw.
Now she’s back to run the gauntlet again, as Elijah Wood’s creepy “The Lawyer” explains that by sending the Le Domaseses to hell, she’s triggered an even bigger game against a whole coterie of black-hearted blue bloods. And the stakes are “double or nothing”, which means her sister’s head is on the block, too…
Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come Trailer
What’s the plot?
As the official synopsis helpfully tells us:
Grace MacCaullay, the sole survivor of a brutal “game” that resulted in the deaths of her husband and in-laws, learns that her victory comes with a price: now, the wealthiest and most influential families on Earth have to kill her in a new game – or risk losing their power and fortunes. Grace refuses to participate but is left with no choice when she learns that her younger sister has also been marked for death and must protect her at all costs.
…which is pretty much what I said up the page a bit.
Who’s in it?
- Samara Weaving as Grace MacCaullay, our hardscrabble heroine.
- Kathryn Newton as Faith MacCaullay, Grace’s younger sister, and probably just as hardscrabble, given the whole foster care thing.
- Sarah Michelle Gellar as Ursula Danforth, and it’s great to see SMG getting back into her horror roots with this and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
- Shawn Hatosy as Titus Danforth.
- David Cronenberg as Mr. Danforth, the evil family patriarch, which is a bit on the nose but hey – David Cronenberg!
- Elijah Wood as The Lawyer.
- Néstor Carbonell as Ignacio.
Plus Kevin Durand, Olivia Cheng, Varun Saranga, Nadeem Umar-Khitab, Juan Pablo Romero, Masa Lizdek, Daniel Beirne, and Antony Hall in various roles.
When’s it out?
Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come hits Australian cinemas on April 9, 2026.
What’s the vibe?
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, AKA Radio Silence, have carved out a cool little niche for themselves in the horror genre – between Ready Or Not, the last couple of Scream flicks, and the fun and frenetic Abigail, they’ve proved they’ve got not just the technical chops, but a definite authorial voice to boot. This could be just a case of moar = better, but watching Australia’s own scream queen slaughter an even bigger bunch of bastards than the first flick strikes me as a fine evening’s entertainment.
