Rob Zombie Crawls Deeper Into ‘The Great Satan’ With ‘Black Rat Coffin’ Video

Rob Zombie has dragged another piece of The Great Satan out of the crypt, releasing the official music video for ‘Black Rat Coffin’.

The track comes from Zombie’s latest studio album The Great Satan, released earlier this year through Nuclear Blast Records. Across 15 tracks, the record finds Zombie leaning hard into the grimy industrial grooves, horror imagery and lurid rock ‘n’ roll that have followed him for decades.

‘Black Rat Coffin’ sits comfortably in that world. Dark, heavy and characteristically strange, it now has its own visual counterpart as Zombie continues pulling individual tracks from the album into the spotlight.

Rob Zombie returns to his darker roots

The Great Satan marked Zombie’s first studio album since 2021’s The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy, which reached number nine on the Billboard 200.

Rather than trying to reinvent a formula that has survived several generations of heavy music, the new record digs back into the uglier corners of Zombie’s catalogue. Tracks including ‘F.T.W. 84’, ‘Tarantula’, ‘Heathen Days’, ‘Punks And Demons’ and ‘The Black Scorpion’ have already given the album plenty of teeth.

There is something almost reassuring about Zombie still sounding this filthy. Trends have come, gone and returned again while his particular collision of industrial metal, B-movie horror and sleazy rock has remained instantly identifiable.

That longevity stretches considerably further than his solo career. Before Hellbilly Deluxe turned him into a standalone metal heavyweight in 1998, Zombie spent the previous decade fronting White Zombie, eventually breaking into the mainstream with records including La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One and Astro-Creep: 2000.

His solo catalogue has since produced seven consecutive Top 10 albums in the US, alongside a filmmaking career responsible for nine feature films including House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween and The Munsters.

Nearly four decades into the whole thing, there is still nobody particularly easy to confuse with Rob Zombie.
