Sepultura have officially announced their farewell release, ‘The Cloud Of Unknowing’ EP, marking the final studio chapter in a career that has stretched across more than 40 years.
Brazilian metal titans Sepultura will release the four track EP on April 24th via Nuclear Blast Records, just as their ‘Celebrating Life Through Death’ farewell tour continues to circle the globe.
After 14 gold records and shows in more than 80 countries, Sepultura aren’t quietly slipping out the back door, instead they’re choosing to document one last creative statement.
A Final Creative Statement
Rather than a greatest hits package or retrospective box set, the band have opted for new material. ‘The Cloud Of Unknowing’ is being framed as a diverse and emotionally loaded send off, capturing both the aggression and introspection that have defined Sepultura’s evolution from thrash insurgents to globally respected metal heavyweights.
Today, they’ve unveiled new single ‘The Place’, with vocalist Derrick Green offering insight into its lyrical weight (per press release):
“This song deals with immigrants who have come to a place seeking refuge and start a new life.
Once assimilated into a false sense of security and relentless propaganda they began to act out against what they hate about themselves. The transition begins to escape from the self hatred and the lashing out against people who believed in the same ideas. I feel the lyrics truly follow the transitions of the song. Starting with disappointment and arriving at anger.”
It’s a theme that feels painfully current, and Green’s explanation suggests a track that builds emotionally as much as it does sonically.
