Former Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin has attempted to cool tensions with Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx after finding himself in the middle of an unexpected social media storm.
The exchange started after Larkin discussed live backing tracks during a recent livestream and referenced Sixx while explaining how modern touring setups often work, the comments quickly spread beyond the original audience and eventually landed in Sixx’s feed, prompting a sharp public response.
Larkin now says he regrets how he framed the example during a lengthy Facebook Live appearance on June 29th, the drummer addressed the situation directly and admitted he handled it poorly (per Loudwire):
“I put my two cents in and then where I messed up and started this fuckin’ drama is I used Nikki Sixx as an example of someone that I’ve seen singing at a mic and then walking away from it and his vocals were still going or whatever… I called him out I guess, but it was taken out of context,” Larkin explained.
Larkin said he never expected the clip to gain traction and insisted there was no personal shot intended:
“I’m apologizing for using you as an example,” he said.
“I was not doing that to attack you. I had your first record [Too Fast for Love] on Leathur Records. I have nothing but respect for you, you’re a legend and you deserve all the accolades that you’ve gotten.”
A broader position
The former Godsmack drummer also clarified his broader position on backing tracks, making it clear he isn’t anti technology or antimodern touring, according to Larkin, plenty of major acts rely on tracks in some form and he doesn’t judge artists for using them, even though it’s not something he personally prefers on stage.
He also revealed that stepping away from Godsmack roughly 18 months ago came down to lifestyle, saying he wanted distance from fame and preferred a quieter life outside the spotlight.
Addressing the fallout one final time, Larkin added:
“I don’t like beefs… I shouldn’t have used you as an example and I’m sorry.”
Whether that closes the chapter remains to be seen, but Larkin’s message was clear, he wants out of the feud business.
