Sid Wilson has added another strange chapter to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his status in Slipknot, publicly introducing himself as being “from the world famous Slipknot” while co-hosting a DJ competition.
Wilson appeared at the inaugural World Scratch Invitational this week as part of the DJX Show Convention, taking on hosting duties under his longtime DJ alias, DJ Starscream (per Loudwire).
When he addressed the crowd, Wilson said: “What’s up ya’ll? Sid, DJ Starscream/No. 0, from the world famous Slipknot. How ya’ll doing tonight?”
He didn’t elaborate on Slipknot or address the reports surrounding his position in the band, instead moving on to discuss the competition.
Still no clarity
The introduction comes less than a month after TMZ first reported that Wilson had allegedly been “permanently” removed from Slipknot, the band has yet to publicly confirm that claim.
The situation became even murkier when guitarist Jim Root appeared to push back against the initial reporting, writing on Instagram: “Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
TMZ subsequently published another report alleging that Wilson’s treatment of his bandmates was a major factor behind the supposed decision, the outlet claimed the issue had been building for some time, while also reporting that the band had planned to control the timing of an announcement before the story leaked.
As previously reported, those allegations remain unconfirmed by Slipknot or Wilson.
Wilson has also remained publicly silent about the reports. When TMZ approached him outside a Los Angeles recording studio earlier this month, he did not answer questions about whether he had been fired.
Now, however, his own introduction at the World Scratch Invitational has provided the clearest recent indication that Wilson still publicly associates himself with Slipknot.
Wilson joined the band in 1998 and has spent more than 25 years as its turntablist, later adding keyboards to his duties, he has performed on all seven of Slipknot’s major label studio albums.
For now, the situation remains unresolved. Wilson is still describing himself as being from Slipknot, while the band itself has said nothing publicly about whether #0 remains a member.
