Six Feet Under Part Ways With Longtime Drummer Marco Pitruzzella, Reveal Successor

Veteran death metal outfit Six Feet Under have officially parted ways with drummer Marco Pitruzzella, bringing an end to a nearly decade long run behind the kit.

The announcement arrived just days before the band kicks off an extensive international touring schedule, with Six Feet Under simultaneously revealing Ruston Grosse as their new drummer (per Loudwire).

In a statement shared with fans, the band confirmed the lineup change had already been in motion for several weeks.

“We have been working together with Ruston for a few months preparing, and formally since the beginning of May after we parted ways with Marco Pitruzzella.”

The group are enthusiastic about the next chapter

“Everyone in the Band is very excited about this New Chapter of Six Feet Under and the Heavy Groove that Ruston is bringing to the Rhythm Section!! He’s a Brutalizer! and a Great guy.”

Pitruzzella joined Six Feet Under in 2017, replacing Kevin Talley and becoming one of the band’s longest serving drummers. During his tenure, he appeared on every studio release from Torment through to this year’s Next To Die, helping shape the band’s modern era with his trademark speed and technical precision.

Interestingly, Ruston Grosse had already hinted at his involvement earlier this year when he revealed he would be handling drum duties for the band’s European tour dates. At the time, he described the opportunity as both exciting and intimidating.

“I’m honored to step into the shoes of the legendary Marco Pitruzzella – one of Extreme metal’s most prolifically recorded drummers.”

Following the official announcement, Grosse doubled down on his enthusiasm for the role.

“I’m absolutely f*ckin’ stoked to pummel the masses with the guys on these next attacks!!!”

He also paid tribute to his predecessor, adding that it was an honour to be “stepping in for Lord Marco.”

Pitruzzella has not publicly commented on his departure from the band, he does however remain active with several other projects and recently promoted new material from Morgue Supplier while continuing work with Wrath Of Logarius.

Fan reaction to the news has largely been supportive, with many expressing excitement about Grosse joining the fold while also thanking Pitruzzella for his contributions over the past nine years.

The lineup change comes as Six Feet Under prepare to launch their Decades In The Grave world tour, which will take the death metal veterans across Europe, North America and South America throughout 2026.
