For years, it’s been one of those Slipknot stories that felt like scene folklore, a long lost album recorded, whispered about in interviews, treated like a myth fans would never actually get to hear. Now, it’s finally real.
Slipknot’s long awaited Look Outside Your Window album is officially coming out this April, but there’s a twist, it won’t be released under the Slipknot name.
Instead, it’s billed as Look Outside Your Window, with the album also titled Look Outside Your Window, the release surfaced via the Record Store Day “big list”, confirming it’ll drop as part of Record Store Day 2026 on April 18th (per Loudwire).
Even better (or worse, if you hate queueing), it’s reportedly limited to 2,300 copies, which basically guarantees it’ll be a bloodbath for collectors.

Recorded in 2008
According to the Record Store Day listing, the project was created during downtime while Slipknot were recording 2008’s All Hope Is Gone. The band members involved are Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan, using the sessions to experiment with music “exploring new directions with no outside expectations.”
The Record Store Day description also teases a premium physical release, splatter vinyl, a die cut jacket, purple foil, purple flood inside the jacket, and embossed text.
Clown previously explained the origins of the sessions, telling Kerrang!:
“The truth is: while we were making that album, Jim and I — who were the only two out of all nine original members who came to the studio — were there every day, from the beginning to the end,” adding, “And then Corey and Sid became a part of it, and all four of us became a part of it — it wasn’t just any one person’s. It became ours… ‘It’s not Slipknot.’”
Corey Taylor has also described the sound as closer to Radiohead than Iowa-era brutality: “It’s much more of a rock vibe. Honestly, it’s much more of a Radiohead vibe, to be honest.”
And now, after 15+ years of hype, frustration, and expectation, the vault door’s finally open.
