Slowly Slowly and Luca Brasi share acoustic tracks

Inducted into the unquestionable hall of fame for Aussie rock are Slowly Slowly and Luca Brasi. Leading the Australian alt scene in excellence, we were among many pleased with the announcement that the two outfits would team up for a limited edition split 7″. Pre-orders sold out in minutes last week, but the bands have blessed fans with a digital release of the acoustic tracks they contributed to the exclusive release.

Slowly Slowly frontman Ben Stewart and Luca Brasi vocalist Tyler Richardson are indeed long-time friends, who had planned to get matching tattoos for some years. They ended up getting inked with separate, but complementary art, which is depicted on the cover for the 7″.

“Tyler and I had been sharing song ideas with each other, bored in iso”, Stewart shared. “We are both very similar – it’s so funny how you can take away our livelihoods and creative outlets, but we’ll always find a way…” It ended up getting to the point where the bands teamed up with Melbourne’s Padre Coffee to release a coffee blend called ‘Godfather Brew’, which was sold with pre-order bundles, named after Stewart’s “love of Italian Kitsch” and Luca Brasi’s “origins as a name taken from The Godfather.”

Luca Brasi’s cut from the split release, titled ‘Yossarian’, is oriented on the character from the novel Catch 22. Richardson explains that it’s about “his outlook on life; as bleak or as sensible as you take it.”

As for Slowly Slowly’s contribution, ‘Slow Learner’, Stewart recorded it in his bedroom at home. “It’s about giving from a place of emptiness”, he notes, “and how it always ends badly.”

Fans can expect more merch to come out around the joint project in the coming days.
