Soundgarden will return to the stage in Seattle next month, with Taylor Momsen and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready joining the surviving members for a special NFL halftime performance.
The hometown appearance will take place at Lumen Field on Wednesday, September 9th, when the Seattle Seahawks open their 2026 season against the New England Patriots (per SPIN Magazine).
Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron will perform with Momsen on vocals and McCready adding guitar, It’s another rare live appearance for Soundgarden following the passing of Chris Cornell in 2017, and one that carries considerably more weight than your average football halftime slot.
Momsen’s connection with the band runs deep, The Pretty Reckless supported Soundgarden on their final tour with Cornell in 2017, and Momsen has spoken openly about how profoundly his death affected her.
She later joined Soundgarden during their 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, performing alongside Thayil, Shepherd and Cameron. McCready was also part of that ceremony, with the group tearing through ‘Rusty Cage’.
Seattle royalty sharing one stage
Adding McCready makes the performance even more distinctly Seattle.
The Pearl Jam guitarist will also perform the US national anthem before the game, while his appearance will support the Washington Innocence Project through the Seahawks’ Spirit Of 12 program.
It also puts McCready back onstage with Cameron, his former Pearl Jam bandmate, Cameron left Pearl Jam last year after nearly three decades behind the kit.
Soundgarden themselves have remained selective about performing since Cornell’s death, generally appearing only for tribute events or major occasions rather than attempting anything resembling a conventional comeback.
That makes this Seattle show feel less like a restart and more like another carefully chosen moment for the surviving members to keep the band’s music alive.
Meanwhile, Soundgarden are continuing work on previously unreleased material featuring Cornell’s vocals, Cameron recently indicated that the long awaited recordings have entered the mixing stage, with plans for their eventual release still being developed.
For Momsen, the appearance arrives during a busy year of her own. The Pretty Reckless released their fifth album, ‘DEAR GOD’, in June and continue touring through December.
The Seahawks and Patriots kick off at 5:20pm PT on September 9th (conversions below), with Soundgarden taking over Lumen Field at halftime.
