‘Spinal Tap’ Forthcoming Concert Film ‘Stonehenge: The Final Finale’ Put on Hold Following Rob Reiner’s Death

The release of the upcoming Spinal Tap concert film, Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, has been put on hold following the death of Rob Reiner.

Fictional heavy metal group Spinal Tap’s upcoming concert film, Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, has been put on hold out of respect for acclaimed director Rob Reiner.

Reporting from Variety would confirm that, while no release date had been set before the decision, US distribution rights holders Bleecker Street originally planned an IMAX release sometime in 2026. The company would tell the publication that they have chosen to put these plans on hold out of respect for Reiner and his family.

Reiner, who would lay the blueprint for what is known as the ‘Mockumentary’ with his first film Spinal Tap, would finally return this year to release its long-awaited sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

Both the sequel and the upcoming concert film would see Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer all reprise their roles as the fictional members of the heavy metal band Spinal Tap.

On Sunday, the bodies of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found at their Los Angeles home in the afternoon. Hours after the discovery, police arrested 32-year-old Nick Reiner, who was taken into custody without incident. Prosecutors said that evidence gathered by the Los Angeles Police Department led homicide detectives to their younger son.

Multiple publications have reported that Nick Reiner was seen arguing with his parents on Saturday night while attending a holiday party at comedian Conan O’Brien’s house.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman held a press conference earlier this week to confirm pending charges against Nick and share details about the allegations. Prosecutors allege that a knife was used in the killings of Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, though he offered few specifics about how events unfolded or the couple’s deaths.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole or capital punishment. At this time, prosecutors had not announced whether they would seek the death penalty.

The deaths of the Reiners have reverberated throughout the entertainment industry, drawing multiple posts expressing sympathy for the family’s loss.
