Spinal Tap II Release Date and Teaser Revealed: This Time, We’re Going Beyond 11”

After years of rumours, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues finally has a release date. The long-awaited sequel to the cult classic This Is Spinal Tap will hit US cinemas on September 12.

A teaser trailer has dropped, leaning straight into the band’s legendary “turn it up to 11” moment. Someone cranks an amp past 11—all the way to infinity—before it promptly explodes. The trailer then cues to Stonehenge playing over the chaos.

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer are back in their iconic roles, with director Rob Reiner also returning to helm the madness. The film picks up with Spinal Tap’s members scattered across wildly different (and predictably ridiculous) pursuits.

Nigel Tufnel now runs a cheese and guitar shop in Berwick-upon-Tweed and plays electric guitar in a village folk band. David St. Hubbins writes music for podcasts, including a true-crime series called The Trouble With Murder, and has also dabbled in on-hold music. Meanwhile, Derek Smalls is curating the New Museum of Glue in London, compiling adhesive artefacts from across the globe. He’s also composed a philharmonic symphony about bad wigs, titled Hell Toupée.

The film is stacked with cameos, including Elton John, Paul McCartney, Questlove, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood. Fran Drescher and Paul Shaffer are also back, alongside new cast members John Michael Higgins, Chris Addison, Kerry Godliman, and Nina Conti.

Originally released in 1984, This Is Spinal Tap remains one of the greatest rock mockumentaries ever made. The sequel, first announced in 2022, is set to deliver another round of beautifully over-the-top rock ‘n’ roll stupidity.

With the amp dial now shattered, Spinal Tap II is cranking things up beyond infinity. Whether the band survives the chaos this time round is anyone’s guess. But I guess we will all soon find out.
