Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Is A New Action Game From Veteran Star Wars & Mass Effect Developer

The Game Awards kicked off with a trailer showing off Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new action role-playing game from Casey Hudson, the director of the original Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic and Mass Effect trilogy.

Star Wars fans begging for a drop-of-video-game amongst a draught of titles have been bestowed a blessing, as this year’s Game Awards announced the all-new Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.

If you need more to hype you up besides “Star Wars video game“, the upcoming title is being directed by Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect director Casey Hudson.

The upcoming game, developed by Arcanaut Studios with Lucasfilm, is intended as a spiritual successor to the original KOTOR series.

You can watch the trailer below:

While the trailer doesn’t give too much away, what has been confirmed so far is that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic won’t be a direct sequel or continuation of the KOTOR series, and will feature near characters for an all-new story.

Given that the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is still ongoing, carrying on as the official sequel to those games, it makes sense that the team is steering clear of that series.

Here’s the official blurb that’s been released:

“Players step into the role of a Force user in a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will blend innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat for an unforgettable experience where every decision deepens the player’s journey toward light or darkness.”

No release date has been announced yet, so it’s hard to start building hype up just yet. Considering that we’re still waiting for that KOTOR remake, which was revealed all the way back in 2021, it’s tough to know when this game will be released.

Either way, you’ll never see me complaining about a new Star Wars game any time soon, especially one from the director of Mass Effect and KOTOR.
