Stewie Griffin heads to a new kindergarten with a two-season order from creators Seth MacFarlane and Kirker Butler.
Family Guy has been going since 1999, which is impressive in its own right. What’s even more impressive is that in that time it overcame an early cancellation an early cancellation at the end of the third season to become a TV mainstay. Initially viewed as little more than a more risqué riff on The Simpsons, it’s now as revered as the Springfield family… well, used to be, if we’re being honest.
And now it’s getting a spin-off. Well, a second spin-off – remember The Cleveland Show? But this time we’re getting a new series centered on a core character – evil super genius toddler Stewie Griffith.
Created by Seth MacFarlane and Kirker Butler the series has received a two season commitment from Fox and Hulu, who co-commissioned, and is expected to hit our screens in the 2027-2028 season. It’ll stream locally on Disney+.
As per Deadline, “after getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enroll in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line. It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject. Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.”
Which sounds very Rick and Morty to me, but that’s fine – MacFarlane’s got his own comedic sensibilities, and they’re sure to be on full display here.
In 2025 Fox renewed MacFarlane’s other animated series, Family Guy and American Dad!, for four years. Also receiving four year orders were The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers, which means Fox will be airing a whopping five adult animated series when Stewie finally arrives.
